Properties and uses of FRP products

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP), also known as fiber-reinforced polymer, offers many advantages over metallic alternatives, especially when compared to steel equivalents. Benefits such as high tensile strength, low weight (approximately 1/4 the weight of steel), corrosion resistance, non-conductive properties, transparent radar and electromagnetically neutral combine to provide a highly cost-effective, durable and sustainable product.

Properties of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)

High corrosion resistance

Long life cycle

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) offers high corrosion resistance and is highly tolerant to the most aggressive environments. Its overall resistance against chloride ion attack demonstrates its durable nature and its ability to withstand harsh conditions. Unlike traditional alternatives such as steel, aluminum and wood, FRP offers a practical long-term solution that overcomes the inherent corrosion challenges facing industry today.

When subjected to normal operating conditions and environments, the expected service life of the profiles will be more than 20 years, subject to normal expected discoloration.

High impact resistance

FRP resists sudden and severe point loading and prevents permanent distortion.

High resistance

Non-conductive, inert and non-sparking

Tensile strength is equal to or greater than that of equivalent steel profiles. Despite its lightweight properties, FRP offers impressive strength-to-weight load performance.

The non-conductive properties of FRP make it ideal for use in electrically hazardous locations. The non-conductive properties of FRP make it ideal for use in electrically hazardous locations.

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) uses

Commercial: There are a multitude of uses for FRP within the commercial sector. GRP fencing and anti-slip products are regularly installed in the commercial sector in stores, supermarkets and more. The products are predominantly used in this sector for safety and security.

Residential: There are also many uses of FRP for the residential market, with FRP mesh being one of its main uses. These types of fencing provide immense security, are visually appealing and also very flexible and adaptable.

Industrial:  This sector covers a wide range of FRP applications. Our products used in the industrial sector include: Fiberglass tanks (FRP)Fiberglass fittings and pipes (FRP)Large diameter FRP tanksEquipment for acid plantCustom made products, etc.
